DO YOU WANT TO:
REDUCE STRESS?
BREAK DESTRUCTIVE HABITS?
LIVE LIFE MORE FULLY?
YOU CAN.
COME LEARN MINDFULNESS PRACTICES THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
I am a long-time practitioner of insight meditation. I came to it the way so many do.... stress was overwhelming me. At the time, I had a "big" job, two small children and more pressure than I felt I could handle.
I tried the usual methods of solving for this.... denial (it's not so bad), drinking (yes it is!), losing my temper (it really is!) and other daily, small habits. It all added up to an unhealthy and not very happy existence.
Some days everything went smoothly. Most days, some thing any thing might go "wrong" (forgotten permission slip, wrong snacks in the lunch box, double booked for two important meetings, budget due in 2 days, etc).
I felt like the guy in the circus spinning plates. One wrong move and it would all come crashing down.
Truth is... something is always bound to go awry. Try as we might to make a perfect life, things happen. Every. Single. Day
What I learned and having been teaching to others over the past years is that there is a method we can ALL practice that brings more peace to our days.
Today I still have a "big" job and I've found a way to balance and enjoy life.
I discovered Insight Meditation.
What Is Insight Meditation?
"Paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally."
- Jon Kabat-Zinn
Insight Meditation (also known as Vipassana Meditation) has been practiced for more than 2500 years as part of various wisdom traditions throughout the world.
Since the late 1970's a series of research studies has shown that the positive effect of a steady, regular mindfulness practice can:
Reduce Stress
Alleviate addictive patterns
Moderate reactivity
Decrease anxiety
Decrease depression
Increase focus
Improve relationships
delay the onset of dementia

Reader comments:
Thank you for writing this clear and concise guide. I have been on the meditation path since 2003. To say it has been a long and winding road is an understatement. I have felt every .single .feeling. described in the book. — Mary Lou
I have read more than a dozen books on mindfulness, and I just read “Just Breathe, A Simple Guide to Mindful Meditation”, by Eliza Wing. This little gem is by far the shortest mindfulness text that I have read (32 pages - breezed through it one sitting on a short connector flight), but don’t let that fool you because this book is a priceless, elegant little gem. With a sense of feng shui, Ms. Wing lays out the core elements of mindfulness in an unintimidating, uncluttered, and stealthily functional format. Passages are brief, to the point and elegantly minimalist. As Ms. Wing states in her introduction, “Mindfulness practice is simple but not easy.” I agree, which is what makes this book special: it’s simple to read and simple to understand, yet highlights the typical complexities of practicing mindfulness which can only be overcome by consistent long term practice. Accordingly, I would highly recommend “Just Breathe” to anyone that is curious or shy about beginning a mindfulness practice. I would also recommend this as a quick reference tool for experienced meditators, or to anyone else that needs a reminder to ...just ...breathe.

“Eliza was my first introduction to Mindfulness Meditation. She was a great teacher, she brought diversity to the material (extra readings and poetry, scientific studies etc.) and also a practical approach to integrating this into my life. She is a kind teacher, who is very easy to talk to, understanding, and truly embodies the mindfulness path. She is knowledgeable about the meditation journey and helps people implement a practice for themselves in a short time. She breaks the material down in easy to process small chunks. Eliza will empower you to achieve the change that you want in your life by using Mindful Meditation.”

I had been studying and practicing meditation for about five years when I stumbled upon a mindfulness/meditation class series offered by Eliza Wing (soarmindfulness.com). While I have participated in group meditation before, Eliza brought a new dimension to my practice by upending a comfortable routine I had developed.
Just as an excellent personal trainer doesn't allow you to get complacent in the gym, Eliza helped me break old routines to find a different connection to the present.
The time I spent studying with Eliza was worthwhile, so much so, I plan on working with her more.

Eliza demystified what it means to practice mindfullness and made it accessible for our team.

I vowed to quit smoking and I am happy to say that I did. The stress hasn’t quit but I have replaced the smoking with yoga and Mindfulness.
